Open to British students of 12 - 18 years. Opportunity to have music performed at the Proms season, broadcast on Radio 3, and receive a BBC commission. All entrants will be invited to an "Inspire" day on 4th August 2012 for creative workshops.

2012 BARLOW PRIZE
The prize is a US$ 12,000 commission for a new work for a cappella choir. This will be premiered by BBC Singers, Latvian Radio Choir, and Volti (San Francisco). 10 - 12 mins. Apply by sending two recent representative scores. One no more than 5 years old. At least one should show ability to write for unaccompanied mixed chorus. Scores with recordings will be helpful (CD).

COMPOSITION CONTEST FOR YOUNG BANDS
The National Band Association is sponsoring a composition competition open to all. Submit a work for concert band suitable for grade 2 or 3 young concert bands. The prize is a contract for the work with Alfred's Band Series and a US$ 2000 advance on furtue royalties. Send full score (pdf); full set of parts (pdf) & recording (mp3).

Svanholm Singers is a male-voice chamber choir, which performs a wide range from medieval to contemporary and sacred and profane. MINI OPERAS AT ENO
This competition is looking for emerging opera talent worldwide. It takes place entirely online. 10 winning scipts will be selected from the script-writing competition, which will then be presented for the composers competition. After that the selections go through to a film competition. The winner of the soundtrack competition will have a performance at an ENO showcase at the British Film Institiute, plus mentoring by the NY composer, Nico Muhly.

CERTAMEN COMPOSITORUM INTERNATIONALE ARBORETUM (POLAND)
Compositions for string orchestra (5.4.3.3.1) with conductor. No electronics. 8 - 12 mins. Must be unpublished, unperformed and unawarded. Prizes of 30,000 PLN; 10,000 PLN; 5000 PLN. Youngest composer qualified will get mastercasses with Penderecki. Anon entry. Entry fee: 200 PLN. Compose a work based on, or applying in some way, a fragment or a part of a melody by Hildegard von Bingen for recorder solo, presenting it as a contemporary composition. The composition will be played by a soloist, on one or several recorders - soloist can also use voice. 5 - 10 mins. Can be sent as paper format or digital as pdf. Send 5 copies. SUONOSONDA INTERNATIONAL COMPOSERS COMPETITION
SuonaSonda is a half-yearly research review which studies recent music. It includes a CD and pocket scores of selected entries. The composers competition is for a work, not yet recorded, of 1 - 4 players taken from: soprano voice, flute, piano and double bass. Can include electronics. Up to 10 mins. Send 6 copies. Entry fee: EUR 75. The prize consists of performance, publication and recording, and includes promotion of the work. The ATHENA Festival at Murray State University, Kentucky, late Feb - early March 2013, is devoted to music by women. Composers are invited to send scores in 2 categories: unpublished chamber music and unpublished choral pieces. HAZEL RENSHAW CAROL COMPOSITION PRIZE
The Music Makers of London, a small a cappella chamber choir based in London, are launching this composition prize. It is for unaccompanied SATB choir. Must be unperformed and unpublished. Occasional divisi is acceptable. 4 - 5 mins from a text in public domain, chosen by the composer. Adjudicators are Judith Weir and Patrick Russill. Prizes of �500 and �200. All shortlisted carols will be considered for publication by Shorter House Editions, and performed at the choir carol concert on 13 Dec 2012, in London UK.  All short-listed entrants must attend the concert. COMA SUMMER SCHOOL IN WALES
COMA (Contemporary Music for All) has teamed up with ELLSO (Classical Music for Late Starter Strings) for a summer school, 29th July - 4th August at Bangor University, Wales. WOMEN OF THE WORLD FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA
A new orchestra due to be launched - looking to work with interested musicians of good quality from classical as well as other genres and styles of music. Composers are invited to write flexibly scored works on the theme "The Natural World" for a CoMA ensemble in their region of UK. CoMA (Contmeporary Music for All) runs a UK-wide network of amateur contemporary music groups. CoMA ensembles in Bristol, East Midlands, Leeds, London and Sussex will rehearse pieces submitted for that ensemble in day-long workshops in the region. Max 6 works for each workshop. Vox Novus is inviting composers and sound artists to submit recorded works of 60 seconds or less. Selected pieces will be played continuously in an hour-long concert. All works will begin precisely on the minute, so works of less than 60 secs will be padded with silence. All works should be recorded and not require live performers for its production. CONTEMPORARY CHOIR SCORES
ThatNewMusicLibrary is a new online site for unpublished choral scores. The scores will be heavily promoted to college libraries. The site will be password-protected and will be referred by editors with an established reputation in  new music. Subscribers to the site will pay a fee, and the composers get 40%, distributed according to time subscribers spent viewing. Music will be protected from being copied or duplicated in any way.

CALL FOR PIANO MUSIC BY LESBIAN COMPOSERS
Gay composer and pianist Jamie Crofts from Brighton, UK is looking for piano 
music by lesbian composers. The first concert "I Play The Body Electric", is programmed for 31st July and will take place during the Brighton Pride festival. The programme will be exclusively by lesbian and gay composers, including Ethel Smyth, Eve Beglarian and Christina Green.
There will also be settings of work by Gertrude Stein. This isn't just a one off concert, however: Jamie is looking for music to include in future concerts with a more general theme.
There is no limitation in terms of style. The only limit is in terms of Jamie's technical ability.

'Hildegard to Hildegard' is a weekly radio show on Soundart Radio 102.5fm in South Devon, UK. LIVING MUSIC PROJECT CALL FOR WORKS
Living Music Project has announced a number of calls for works, starting with piano music from Feb 2008. It offers composers the chance to write for a world-wide sheet music market. Works can be in any style corresponding to traditional Western genres from Bach to Schoenberg and beyond. The trustees have decided to focus on group music making, especially involving young people. Application in writing, with short introductory letter with a project description and budget. The letter should identify the organisation and indiviuals applying and the sum requested. Include aims of project, project leaders, range and number of participants, and project plan, schedule and venue(s). Plans for monitoring and evaluation should be included. WELCOME TRUST ARTS AWARDS
The Arts Awards are the Welcome Trust's new funding scheme to support arts projects which engage with biomedical science.  They are looking for projects which stimulate interest and debate in biomedical science, and foster high-quality collaborative partnerships across the arts, science and/or education. The Awards provide funding for a range of projects.  Small to medium-sized projects of up to �30,000 have several deadlines each year.  Large projects of above �30,000 have once a year deadline. The Rockefeller Foundation's Bellagio Study and Conference Center, located in northern Italy on Lake Como, is accepting applications for its artist residencies and workshops.
