California DMV driver's license

Oh I forgot to share how happy I am to pass my written test in DMV for my driver's license in California. Just got 4 mistakes and I was so happy. People were telling me how hard it is but I am just so lucky and happy that every word was so familiar to me and it is like it's everything that I read about. You may also try to answer their sample test which available in the link below. Well, I was driving in the Philippines since I was 18 years old, as soon as I am eligible to get a driver's license in the Philippine so I can explore the city the way I wanted it to. I applied for my own passport as well to explore the world. Since we moved here in California, I was taking my time to take it after all my hubby can drive after his rest from his work where we are destined to go and I am  actually enjoying the passenger side of the car. Being the co-pilot and all and I usually love to sleep in the car, rocking can put me to sleep and it's my favorite thing. lol. But trying so hard not to sleep while we ate in motion. Just tired of driving I guess but I still need to drive especially when my hubby's tired from work and it is a necessity here in California.

Just don't forget, a maximum amount of alcohol that should be in your body is 0.08% alcohol when driving. I don't drink though but it came out in the test. That's one of the questions I kept in mind before taking the test. I just love their policy here in California even though they are strict. It made sense why they are implementing it real good. Corruption if there is any isn't like so huge like in the Philippines like you can get away with traffic rules regulation by just paying up or just by simply staying pretty and calm, like what I always do or my friend in the passenger seat sometimes say I am a niece of a certain general, because we both have the same last name, even though I am not and they believed it. I drive carefully as possible and it's just like minor and seldom that I made a wrong turn, maybe 2-3 times in my driving history because I am not good in directions, or they were hungry and just ask you to pull over even if you didn't do anything wrong. But you just have to stay calm as possible as you can and smile. lol. There was actually a time where the traffic enforcer tried to get my number and he tried to ring it once so as to assure that I gave him the right number before letting me go. He tried calling at my house but never actually talked to him. eeeww. One of my bff where treated bad that her father ended up going to the police station to file a complaint and the traffic enforcer loses his job and he totally deserves it. Or they will chase you because it's lunch time or merienda time. I love Philippines, please don't get me wrong. It's just what people do and there is like no end for it. That's at least how I felt in my existence while living in the Philippines. I still believe that not everyone is the same.

Go back to DMV, just make sure that you try to read the DMV California handbook.

Honey berry, Oakridge mall

It's my hubby's off and we watched Snow White movie at Oakridge mall with our daughter. We chased after the early bird promo for movies in which you just have to pay USD 6.50 instead of paying USD 12 per person. Then he had a great deal where in when you buy any size drink, you get a free small popcorn. We bought a 1 large sprite and we got a small popcorn. I didn't add more butter. We thought it wasn't enough for all of us but since we just had brunch at home, we ended up seeing our popcorn half full when the movie was about to end. We usually buy large sizes popcorn that you can have a refill after you finish that whole junk and have it refilled so we could bring some home. Like you have to have it filled up again just to feel you didn't lose anything and made you money worth the popcorn without even realizing that it's added calories to your bud. I just realized that we are just trying finished it up unless you came in the movie so hungry. In the end I realized that small popcorn is just enough for the 3 of us especially when it comes to calories and health. Not worth for your health I think. Then when we purchased our drink we were deciding if we should go for the large one or medium. We ended up buying the large one and it turns out that we have to throw away after finishing the movie. Though it's just 50 cents difference, I felt like it's not worth losing that 50 cents and adding those calories in your body. At least I know next time. I am not really a big fan of soda.

On our way out, Zoe, our daughter wanted some Rotti Bun and we just loved the Honey Berry Roti bun. We just decided to get 2 of them, 1 plain for my daughter and 1 with cream cheese for me and my hubby. It was yummy and it was enough to fulfill our urge.

I think Roti buns where made in Malaysia but I have first seen it in a coffee shop in Singapore. Although never tasted it there, it's my first time to have tried it here in the US a couple of months ago which my bro-in-law introduced it to us and it was yummy. I believed that the outer part contains coffee so I advise not to let your kids eat the outside part and that's what my lovely daughter did. She like scraped the outer part and just ate the bread in it.

Chai Cajun, Florida

Wow! My first real out of state travel by plane away from California. After our long hours of flying, we are actually here in Florida. We came here so early and we took a van to get our leased car from Payless company. We thought we saved some pennies choosing that company but we didn't. But you win some and you lose some so it's fine. Our family is arriving at the airport in the late afternoon.

After getting our car, we headed to Florida mall to get something to eat. We ate at Subway and Chai Cajun in Florida mall. Their BBQ chicken tasted yummy and juicy. x

Spring Roll Recipe, less

It's my daughter's graduation and they have a class party the day after the ceremony.  She wanted me to cook adobo but I asked her if anybody is bringing rice. Nobody is bringing rice and there is like a group of students who are in charge of finger food and she is one of them. I am deciding between meatballs and spring roll. My daughter loves meatball but she also loves spring roll. I decided to just cook spring roll instead.

It's so hard for me to cook regular food. I don't use processed ingredients as much as I can. I always use organic and natural product and/or different procedure just to try to keep it yummy, simple, and most important of all, healthy. In this recipe I tried using ground pork with the minimum fat I can find in the market, along with the organic onions, organic carrots. I used sea salt. It's best if you have that sea salt and pepper grinder. As I always say, regular ones are ok =) I hoped my daughters classmates and parents will enjoy our potluck contribution meal and they did. So glad they did!

Spring Rolls
Ingredients
  • 2 lbs ground pork
  • 1 cup carrots, minced or shredded
  • 2 teaspoons ginger, minced
  • 1 medium onion, minced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 cups canola oil for deep frying, (as for me, second healthiest to olive oil)
  • Spring roll wrappers
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt, iodized salt is fine
  • pepper to taste
Cooking Procedure
  1. Heat a pan to medium heat and pour the ground pork after 5 minutes. Put on low heat
  2. Put-in the ginger and cook for a few seconds.
  3. Add the onion. Cook until tender.
  4. Sprinkle the garlic
  5. Cover. Cook until the color turns medium brown.
  6. Add carrots, salt, and ground black pepper. Stir and cook for 3 to 5 minutes. Turn off heat.
  7. Let the temperature cool down while allowing excess oil and liquid to drip.
  8. Scoop cooked mixture and arrange in spring roll wrappers.
  9. Heat cooking oil in a deep cooking pot with the canola oil. Deep fry the spring rolls in medium heat until the color turns light to medium brown.
  10. Remove from the cooking pot and place in a plate lined with paper towels (this will absorb excess oil).
  11. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce
Share and enjoy! =)

Joe Crabs, San Francisco

I have been to San Francisco like just 7 times since we came here and this will be my first time to try Joe Crabs resto. We were so excited to try their meals.

I was taking pictures on our way to San Francisco. I just love taking pictures. Every moment could just pass by so quickly that you would hardly noticed and remember all the things you went through. Happy times and things around you. I try my best to take pictures all the time cuz I know I couldn't go back.

I saw this Frankenstein figure carrying a man and it was awesome. The idea is so cool and so realistic. You may see them walking by the streets near Pier 1 or around the crab's place in San Francisco.

Finally we arrived at Joe Crabs. There were 8 of us on the table. We shared meals so we can taste everything. We had salad with crabs.

Mostly, the stores and house in San Francisco are in small sizes. I dunno, I haven't been around San Francisco that much. Many people wants to live in San Francisco they say that's why housing is expensive. Joe Crab's interior were pretty cute. There were moments where the crew stops serving and they dance on the aisle.

There's a cute souvenir at Joe Crabs where in you can take home their fork knives for the crabs and says got it from Joe Crabs. How did they know =)

On our way home, we passed by Boudin and saw the crocodile formed bread.

Sweet and Sour Beef or Pork Meatball Recipe

As much as we love to invent and have new ideas and exciting choices of food for our family to enjoy everyday, we sometimes ran out of 1, 2, or 3 missing recipes that's needed. In a kind of lifestyle that I have, (and I'm speaking for myself=) we try to buy recipes that we need but I usually missed an ingredient or if not, I changed my mind so quickly what to cook to surprise my family. A food that they will enjoy. I hope you know what I mean, not the usual. Actually, in this recipe, I was planning to make a burger steak with mashed potato and corn and carrots on the side. I already made the mashed potato earlier and thinking that I would be doing burger steak again inspite of having burger steak a week ago and wanted to surprise my family with a different and delicious meal. hehe.. At first, I baffled but i decided to cook Sweet and Sour Beef Meatball Recipe at that minute and glad I did it.

Since kids love meatballs, my daughter loved this meal. It will surely build your kid’s appetite.

If you want to take the meatballs to the next level, you can always use the meatball recipe in your Spaghetti. As for the meatballs, the recipe asks for ground pork but it's alright to use ground turkey, ground chicken, ground pork, or ground beef. In  my case, ground beef is available and it's actually a ground beef with no antibiotic or hormones added. Atleast that's what it says on the label and i bought it from Trader Joes. In all the recipes in my blog, You may always use a regular meat of course, it's just me =). I used organic onion, organic egg and organic carrots in this recipe. I don't normally use oil but if I do, I try to use extra virgin olive oil cold pressed and if I get lucky, an organic olive oil which I buy at a discounted price most often in Grocery Outlet. I literally love that store because we are always in a budget and their products are great and they usually have organic and natural stuff as well. Please always check the ingredient of everything that you purchased from food to personal hygiene and cosmetics. Later I will discuss about that. You may read information if you are a healthy organic freakkyyy princess like me.. lol.

Ohh this is getting long, ok let's go back to our recipe.

Try this Healthiest Sweet and Sour Meatballs recipe and let us know what you think.

Sweet and Sour Meatballs Recipe

Ingredients
Meatballs:
1 lb ground beef, I used 95% lean 15% fat
1/2 cup wheat flour, bread crumbs are better but not available at our house at the time =(
2 teaspoons sea salt, crushed
2 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 piece raw egg
1 whole onion, minced

Sauce:
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
5 pieces atleast pineapple chunks, I got that from a canned fruit cocktail, be resourceful! =)
4 tsp apple cider vinegar, or regular vinegar
1 medium sized onion, quartered
6 garlic cloves
1/2 cup water
4 tablespoons tomato ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup carrot, sliced
1 tsp olive oil, or regular oil
Sea salt and pepper to taste

very important ingredient but not available in our home, now it's optional:
1 cup bell pepper (red and green combined)

But it turned out it tasted so good

Cooking Procedure

-Scoop about 1 to 2 tablespoons of mixture and form into a ball shaped figure. Roll the scooped meatball to your flour. Set aside.
-Heat a frying pan then pour-in meatball and cover it with low fire.
-On the same cooking pot then pour-in remaining 1 tsp of oil.- put the garlic. Add the quartered onion, sliced carrot, and bell peppers (optional) then cook for -5 minutes.
-Add pineapple chunks and cook for 1 minute.
-Put-in the tomato ketchup, brown sugar, and vinegar then stir.
-Pour-in water and let boil.
